  • Spinner - The Voice of Hungary: Marta Sebestyen Finds Even Deeper Meaning in Her Heritage - She is one of the leading voices of folk music in Hungary. Her work over more than 25 years with the traditionalist band Muzsikás and a wide range of other projects made her perhaps the most visible and beloved force in a movement that reached far beyond musical impact. (They range from a role in the '80s rock opera 'Istvan, a kiraly' about St. Stephen, the founding King of Hungary -- there are plenty of videos from a major production to be found on YouTube -- to being the featured vocalist on the score of the Oscar-winning film 'The English Patient.')     Moscow - A leading Russian journalist for the Kommersant newspaper has been severely beaten outside his Moscow home.Russian media said Oleg Kashin was in hospital in an induced coma and police were treating the attack as a case of attempted murder. Mr Kashin’s editor said the attack was retribution for articles he wrote. He has recently covered anti-Kremlin protests and extremist rallies.

    Beijing - One of China’s best-known artists, Ai Weiwei, says he has been under house arrest at his home in Beijing. He says the authorities want to prevent him holding a party to mark the forced demolition of his new Shanghai studio. Mr Ai was initially invited to build the space, but it has now been declared illegal and will shortly be demolished.

    “I’m under house arrest to prevent me from going to Shanghai. You can never really argue with this government,” Mr Ai told the Associated Press by telephone. According to messages on his Twitter feed, Mr Ai has been told he will be under house arrest until midnight on Sunday.
